Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 2024

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month; acknowledges that bowel cancer, which includes colon and rectal cancer, is one of the most common cancers in the UK; notes that whilst bowel cancer is usually diagnosed in those over the age of 60, it can be diagnosed in younger people; understands that if bowel cancer is caught in the early stages, there is a greater than 90% chance of a cure, yet many people are unaware of the signs and symptoms; recognises that Bowel Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness of the signs and how people can seek help and support, and urges anyone with a new prolonged change in bowel habit that has lasted for four weeks or more to see their doctor.
