Celebrating Community Champion Betty Milton

The motion

That the Parliament commends the unwavering commitment of Parkhead resident, Betty Milton, over many decades to the Sighthill, Broomhouse and Parkhead community; understands that Betty moved to Parkhead in Edinburgh during the Second World War and has continued to live in the local area all of her life; notes what it sees as the tremendous impact Betty has had on the local area, contributing and to championing change as a member of the Sighthill, Broomhouse and Parkhead Community Council, where she held a number of positions, concluding with chairperson for the last 16 years; acknowledges the active role Betty has played in numerous campaigns, including the "Buy a Brick" campaign for St Nicholas Church in Sighthill Loan; notes the significant role she has had in championing the Older Persons Forum, including participating in the Scottish Older People's Assembly, which was held in the Scottish Parliament in 2019; celebrates Betty’s decades of tireless work to improve the local area; believes that she will be remembered locally as a true pillar of the community; thanks her for her outstanding contribution, and wishes her well in her retirement to North Berwick.
