Aberdeen Science Centre and Vitenfabrikken Collaboration

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Aberdeen Science Centre has joined forces with Norway's Science Factory, Vitenfabrikken, and international energy company, Equinor, to form the North Sea Collaboration Project; understands that the project, which will explore innovative carbon emissions reduction solutions being developed in Scotland and Norway through a range of STEM activities and educational tools, will seek to raise awareness of the global climate crisis within schools and communities in both countries; understands that the collaboration will also include the "Platforms of Tomorrow Challenge", a competition for school pupils in and around Aberdeen and in Rogoland, Norway, where participating pupils will be tasked with inventing methods to reuse decommissioned oil platforms for a new and sustainable purpose, which will then be presented to a panel of judges using Lego models; believes that this project is a fantastic example of how Scotland can join forces with other European countries to tackle shared challenges to work towards a low carbon economy, and hopes that the project succeeds in encouraging early interest in STEM subjects amongst young people.
