The motion

That the Parliament commends all those who participated in the Walk of Hope on 12 May 2024; understands that the event helped to raise awareness around suicide and mental health and was organised by Chris’s House in Wishaw, which is a suicide prevention charity; further understands that the walkers set off at 4.00 am and walked until sunrise, symbolising that there is always hope and light, even during the darkest of times; notes reports that rates of suicide in the most deprived areas in Scotland are 2.9 times higher than in the least deprived, with 762 probable suicides in 2022; thanks all of the volunteers, third sector, charity and community organisations that provide support, promote awareness, and stand up to the stigma that it believes still surrounds mental health, and wishes all those who walked from the darkness into the light all the best.
