The motion

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the importance of libraries and community hubs for the health and wellbeing of Scotland's communities; understands that libraries can afford a wealth of benefits by providing access to free books, clubs, events, and warm welcoming spaces, including ensuring access to the positive benefits of reading for those from economically deprived backgrounds; notes the development of the Edinburgh Future Libraries Strategy 2024-29, which, it understands, aims to modernise the library service so that people can access public services locally and digitally, and so that it can serve the community as a third space; welcomes the overwhelming public response to the consultation on the strategy, which, it understands, has received 14,000 responses; believes that this demonstrates widespread support for public libraries and community hubs, and hopes for support to be given to local authorities to ensure that libraries can continue to provide important services to the communities that they serve.
