Pioneering Medical Research Celebrated in Glasgow at St Mungo’s Awards
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde medical students and junior doctors on being recognised at the prestigious St Mungo’s Awards for their ground-breaking contributions to medical research; notes that the annual awards for research started in 1894 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary; believes that they help showcase the exceptional medical talent within the hospital, aided by the partnership with the University of Glasgow and the wide range of medical specialities that they cover; makes special mention of Jessica Roberts, a PhD student who won the 129-year-old St Mungo’s medal for her work in studying human adaptive immune responses to functionalised biomaterials for bone reconstruction, and to runner-up Anna Kamdar, who has examined the impact that post-COVID-19 syndrome has on blood flow; considers that the research submitted by all those who entered has the potential to greatly improve outcomes for patients; highlights what it sees as their exceptional commitment to improve the lives of others, and believes that they are a credit to all those who may later rely on their research, their peers and this leading hospital.
