Welcoming New Levenmouth Rail Link Stations
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the opening of two new train stations at Cameron Bridge and Leven on 2 July 2024, which have been built as part of the Levenmouth Rail Link project, which aims to reconnect local communities across the route to the rail network after a gap of 55 years; notes that since the Leven to Thornton passenger route closed in 1969, the community-run Levenmouth Rail Campaign has been calling for the re-opening of the railway line to improve access to essential services and employment opportunities as part of wider efforts to regenerate communities across the railway line; further notes that the Scottish Government invested over £116 million to deliver this new, six-mile, double-tracked line, with two new stations at Cameron Bridge and Leven, active travel routes, a park-and-ride facility, and plans for the electrification of the service; believes that the opening of two new stations on the railway link will progress the Scottish Government’s ambition to transition more people from private car use onto public transport, and consequently lead to a positive reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from Scotland’s transport sector; thanks the local communities and Levenmouth Rail Link project for all their hard work over the years, and wishes all those campaigning for connection to the railway network all the best of luck.
