World Bicycle Day 2024
The motion
That the Parliament recognises 3 June 2024 as World Bicycle Day; believes that there are many benefits of cycling, as a simple, affordable, healthy and environmentally friendly, sustainable means of transport; celebrates the efforts of the United Nations in promoting the advance of bikes as a means of fostering sustainable development, strengthening education, promoting health, preventing disease and facilitating social inclusion; supports the increased investment in improving cycling routes, infrastructure and promotion across Scotland in this parliamentary session; calls on the Scottish Government to continue this trend, and celebrates the work of organisations, such as Sustrans and the Cargo Bike Movement, in helping change people’s habits by promoting leaving cars at home and taking a bike instead.
