Congratulating Work Experience Link with Army Cadets and Royal College of Nursing

That the Parliament congratulates 16-year-old army cadets Lucas Potter and Joseph Baker, who attended the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility thanks to a collaboration between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Cadet Scheme; notes that the army cadets where able to spend three days shadowing NHSGGC staff involved in clinical trials; understands that the experience saw Lucas and Joseph spend time observing research nurses and their patients, learning about research processes, such as informed consent and safety in clinical trials; further understands that they also visited the clinical trial pharmacy, biorepository and pathology departments, and met staff from the NHSGGC innovation team, gaining an understanding of the extensive network of staff required in research, and the processes and expertise involved; understands that Glasgow Clinical Research Facility was the first research site in the UK to pilot supporting RCN cadets and that initial feedback has been incredibly positive, both from RCN and the cadets themselves; highlights what it sees as the advantages of introducing research early in the careers of cadets to better their understanding and development, and considers that it is a credit to both Lucas and Joseph, that they took time out of their studies before going into S6, and that the experience may help shape their future career paths.
