The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges what it sees as the significant cultural and economic impact of hosting the first ever live televised WWE event in Scotland, featuring Friday Night Smackdown and Clash at the Castle at the OVO Hydro; recognises the long history and important contribution of wrestling within Scotland’s creative industry; commends the WWE for choosing Scotland as a venue for such a prestigious event, which, it believes, reflects the country’s enthusiastic wrestling fanbase and its contribution to the global wrestling community; notes the extraordinary achievements of Scottish wrestler, Drew McIntyre, who, not only headlined Wrestlemania 2024, but also made history as the first Scottish wrestler to become WWE Champion; acknowledges his role in raising the profile of Scottish athletes in international sports entertainment and serving as an inspiring figure for many across Scotland and beyond; celebrates the enthusiasm and passion of the thousands of wrestling fans across Scotland, whose support, it believes, has been pivotal in promoting wrestling as a significant part of Scotland’s cultural and creative sectors, and wishes WWE, its athletes, and all fans a safe and successful event at the OVO Hydro, with particular best wishes to Drew McIntyre for his future endeavours and his continued role as a proud representative of Scotland in the world of wrestling.
