The motion

That the Parliament commends the work of Graham Riddell, a photographer and Innerleithen resident, for organising a photography exhibition in the town; understands that the event, which took place at Findra Clothing from 4 May to 31 May 2024, showcased portraits of people and shared their local stories from across the Tweed Valley; understands that the exhibition was used to raise funds for the Stroke Association, following Mr Riddell’s family member, who, it understands, had a massive stroke and has since made a good recovery; recognises that the funds will go towards stroke prevention and providing support to people affected by stroke; believes that stroke is the biggest single cause of adult disability in Scotland, with someone having a stroke every 53 minutes, and that support is required for rehabilitation as well as emergency treatment; welcomes the upcoming launch of the Stroke Association’s “Thriving After Stroke” campaign, which asks for all stroke survivors to leave hospital with a personalised rehabilitation plan, have contact information for ongoing support from stroke services, and to receive a review of their progress and needs six months after their stroke; congratulates Mr Riddell for organising the event, and passes on its best wishes to him, his family, the hosts and the Stroke Association for every success in the future.
