St Brigid's Primary Fundraiser for the Stroke Association

Lodged by Clare Adamson (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 21 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the pupils of St Brigid's Primary in Newmains, who have raised a phenomenal £2,200 for the Stroke Association; understands that Veronica Murphy, the school secretary, suffered a severe haemorrhagic stroke in 2023 and that the pupils signed up to do a number of activities from football to dance to raise money for the charity; further understands that Veronica's grandsons, Dominic and Joseph Murphy, took part in the fundraising with a sponsored litter pick and Dominic cycled from his home to a number of football stadiums, raising an incredible £2,340 on their own; believes that stroke is the biggest single cause of adult disability in Scotland, with someone having a stroke every 53 minutes, and that support is required for rehabilitation as well as emergency treatment; thanks the Stroke Association, Veronica's son, Paul, her family, all the staff and pupils of St Brigid's for their amazing fundraising event, and wishes Veronica all the best.
