Paul McLaughlin, Admiration and Gratitude for Retiring Headteacher

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the 40-year teaching career of the headteacher, Paul McLaughlin, of St Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch; commends Mr McLaughlin’s gifting and lasting legacy of empowering others by nurturing and releasing potential in both pupils and staff; congratulates him on his achievements, such as being awarded Scottish Teacher of the Year in 2009 and 2019, and UK Teacher of the Year in 2009, and his school being repeatedly shortlisted for the TES High School of the Year Award; delights at the joy with which Mr McLaughlin connects with the families of St Ninian’s High School and beyond through enabling the hosting of its Confucius Classroom from 2012 and establishing a ground-breaking blueprint partnership with the Youth Academy of Celtic FC; applauds the tenacity of Mr McLaughlin’s commitment to supporting others within the teaching profession, including supporting seven of his own depute headteachers into their headship qualification, in addition to St Ninian’s High School being recognised by the General Teaching Council of Scotland in 2017 as one of the very first schools to achieve the Excellence in Professional Learning Award; acknowledges Mr McLaughlin’s Scotland-wide impact as an associate inspector with His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education, and tutor for the Head Teacher Leadership Academies of Columba 1400; highlights Mr McLaughlin’s service on the executive of the Catholic Head Teachers Association of Scotland, Archdiocese of Glasgow Secondary Headteachers’ Association and as a director of the Board of Governors for The Good Shepherd Centre, supporting young people who have experience of the Children’s Panel and criminal justice system, and sends abundant thanks and every best wishes to Mr McLaughlin as he retires in June 2024.
