The motion

That the Parliament recognises the 50th anniversary of work commencing on the Great Polish Map of Scotland, also known as Mapa Scotland, a 50m x 40m three-dimensional outdoor concrete scale model of Scotland in the grounds of Barony Castle in Eddleston; notes that the Map was the brainchild of Polish war veteran, Jan Tomasik, and was built between 1974 and 1979, mainly by a small group of Polish people; understands that it is claimed to be the world’s largest terrain relief model and has in recent years been renovated and restored by a committed team of volunteers; believes that, as well as the merits of the creative endeavour, it also stands as a lasting tribute to the ties between Poland and Scotland, and looks forward to its next 50 years.
