Recognising Smithycroft Secondary School's Achievement in Sportscotland’s Recent School Sports Awards 2024-26
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Smithycroft Secondary School, in Glasgow, on being awarded a Gold School Sport Award by sportscotland; understands that the initiative, funded by the National Lottery, is designed to encourage schools to put young people at the heart of decision-making, planning and implementation of extra-curricular school sport; recognises that it further encourages schools to self-reflect and continuously improve, recognise and celebrate successful school sport models; notes that it is an award that also encourages sporting links between schools and the communities around them, providing opportunities for young people to progress; believes that, to date, only 15 of such awards have been achieved; recognises that the Gold School Sport Award highlights the school’s achievements in putting sport at the heart of its planning, practice and ethos, and believes that the school has shown excellent practice across the core areas of the award and demonstrated an ongoing commitment to increase young people’s opportunities and engagement in physical education, school sport and leadership and provide clear pathways to life-long participation in sport.
