Movies in MRI Thanks to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and Rangers Charitable Foundation

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Rangers Charitable Foundation, which generously donated £10,000 to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity to help buy specialist equipment for the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow that allows children to watch films during their MRI scans; understands that the MRI-safe screen, linked to a DVD player in the control room, has transformed the experience of scans by allowing children to watch their favourite films during the scan, and that by offering a comforting distraction it helps the hospital deliver person-centred care; believes that for many children, the prospect of lying still for up to 90 minutes inside a noisy machine can be overwhelming; understands that patients are often referred from other hospitals in instances where a child has not been able to cope with an MRI scan in an adult setting; further understands that, for smaller children, who might otherwise require a general anaesthetic to remain still during an MRI scan, the DVD player can be a game-changer; considers that it not only alleviates anxiety but can also save time and resources for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde by reducing the need for sedation, and believes that, if a child is relaxed during their scan, it allows the team to see more patients in a day.
