Northfield Academy Pupil Wins Top Prize from University of Oxford

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Northfield Academy Pupil, Robyn Rodgers, who has recently been awarded the prestigious Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators 2024 at level 2 in French; understands that over 16,000 pupils, from all secondary school year groups, from across the UK, took part in the 2024 creative translation competition, which covered five languages, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Mandarin, across four different levels; notes that the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators is an initiative of the Queen’s College Translation Exchange at the University of Oxford, and that its mission is to inspire lifelong engagement in languages and international culture, while encouraging young language learners to continue with their studies through their schooling and beyond; further notes that a team of 22 judges, including undergraduate modern language students at Oxford University, as well as leading professional literary translators, assessed the competition entries; understands that Robyn used her language skills to translate a text from French into English, using a list of vocabulary provided, as well as a bilingual dictionary, without using online translators; commends the hard work, dedication and efforts of Robyn in achieving this award, and wishes her all the best going forward.
