The motion

That the Parliament celebrates 16- to 18-year-old students from Falkirk who are participating in an essay competition discussing the future of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics); applauds the charity, TechFest, for making STEM engagement more inclusive; believes that this competition has fostered the involvement of women in science, who, it considers, remain underrepresented in the STEM industries; recognises the value of encouraging young people to become interested in energy, medicine, chemistry and biological sciences; appreciates the transferable skills that it believes this competition has given to participants, including how to approach interviews, research and writing skills; understands that it has enabled children from all backgrounds to have access for involvement, and thanks TechFest for allowing insight and new perspectives on STEM futures from young people.
