Tackling Child Poverty

The motion

That the Parliament believes that tackling child poverty should be a priority for both the Scottish and UK governments; welcomes the establishment by the UK Government of a ministerial taskforce to work on measures across government to reduce child poverty; considers that that the UK Government has received the worst economic inheritance in modern times from the previous Conservative administration and that economic stability is crucial for improving living standards and reducing inequality; welcomes, therefore, what it sees as the commitments by the UK Government to enhance fiscal responsibility, deliver economic growth, create wealth in every part of the country and tackle low pay and insecure work by improving workers' rights as an immediate priority; believes that these measures will address in-work poverty, and further believes that the so-called "two-child cap" should be removed as soon as the financial circumstances allow.
