Zero HIV Stigma Day

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges Zero HIV Stigma Day, which falls on 21 July 2024, and believes that, in Scotland today, stigma is more harmful than HIV; understands that medical advancements mean that a person living with HIV and on the correct treatment can live a long, happy and healthy life and cannot pass HIV on to others; believes that HIV stigma continues to have a negative impact on people in Scotland and can prevent people from accessing vital testing, treatment and support; commends the Terrence Higgins Trust for its award-winning HIV anti-stigma campaign, which is funded by the Scottish Government, and marks the first national campaign of its type in nearly 40 years; welcomes the Scottish Government's commitment to ending new transmission of HIV in Scotland by 2030; acknowledges that eradicating HIV stigma must be central to achieving this goal, and considers that much more must be done to combat HIV stigma across all sections of society.
