Calls on the UK Government to Listen to Industry
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern the reported comments from Serica Energy's chairman that companies like Serica will have to cease investment in the North Sea if the UK Government follows through with plans to reduce capital allowances, which it understands will lead to reduced tax revenues overall, significant job losses and less energy security; believes that the UK Government must listen to voices from the industry to ensure that government and industry are working together to safeguard the journey to a net zero economy; urges the Chancellor to meet with representatives from the industry ahead of her scheduled Budget on 30 October 2024 to hear their concerns, and calls on the UK Government to adhere to its reported pre-election pledge that there would be "no cliff-edge" for oil and gas workers under a Labour administration.
