TRACS, UNESCO Advisor on Intangible Cultural Heritage

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges that TRACS has been officially appointed as a UNESCO advisor on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH); understands that Steven Byrne of TRACS and David Francis, Director of the Traditional Music Forum, witnessed the designation of TRACS as an NGO advisor to UNESCO in Paris; acknowledges that the appointment means that TRACS is now officially recognised internationally for the work on ICH; notes that it is only one of two organisations in Scotland that are experts and advisors on ICH, alongside Museums and Galleries Scotland; further notes that Historic Environment Scotland and Creative Scotland are part of the ICH Scotland Partnership Group, which was set up to safeguard ICH in Scotland to drive forward UK ratification of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for Safeguarding of ICH; welcomes that ratification finally took place in April 2024, with the convention coming into force in the UK on 7 June 2024; understands that TRACS was founded in 2012 and has been key to developing and showcasing Scotland’s rich cultural heritage, advocating for traditional arts and making music, storytelling and dance inclusive and accessible to everyone across Scotland, and wishes everyone involved all the best for the future.
