Neilston Community Benefits from Summer St Thomas’ RC Church Drop-in and Neilston Parish Church Summer Club

The motion

That the Parliament understands that the community of Neilston in East Renfrewshire has benefitted from social activities hosted by St Thomas' RC Church and Neilston Parish Church; notes that St Thomas' RC Church hosts a drop-in café every Thursday, facilitated by the St Vincent de Paul Society, where local people are encouraged to attend, meet friends and talk over tea and home baking, and that this has also continued over the summer holiday period when, it understands, loneliness and isolation can be acute; further notes that Neilston Parish Church has hosted a Tuesday lunch club over the summer holiday period, which includes activities such as games, soft play, movies and crafts, but also provides free lunches and other refreshments; celebrates that both churches are using their communities and buildings to facilitate meaningful social engagement for local people; believes that it is important for people to feel connected to the community in which they live, and thanks everyone at St Thomas' RC Church and Neilston Parish Church for helping the local people of the village of Neilston to stay connected to their own community.
