Edinburgh International Book Festival 2024
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Edinburgh International Book Festival (EIBF) on a successful first year in its new venue at Edinburgh Futures Institute at the University of Edinburgh; understands that EIBF took place between 10 and 25 August 2024, featuring almost 600 events, with speakers including authors, poets, politicians, musicians, and illustrators, tackling what it sees as subjects of global importance, such as the climate crisis and global affairs; welcomes the news that over 100,000 people visited the festival, with more than 200 events selling to 90% capacity or more, representing a significant increase in ticket and book sales when compared with previous years, and audiences from over 55 countries watching online; welcomes the festival’s work to bring culture to a wider audience, with over 4,500 children from 89 Scottish schools attending events free of charge, and EIBF authors visiting 12 hospitals and prisons across Scotland; commends the organisers of EIBF, and wishes for the continued success of the festival as it continues to operate in its new home.
