The motion

That the Parliament recognises the success of the Edinburgh TV Festival, which took place between 20 and 23 August 2024, featuring more than 70 events, including the Edinburgh TV Awards; understands that the 49th edition of the festival was attended by over 2,000 TV industry leaders; notes that the MacTaggart Memorial Lecture, the festival's "centrepiece", was delivered by playwright, James Graham, and raised the issue of working class representation in the television industry; further notes with concern the lecture highlighting that only 8% of people working in the television industry are from working class backgrounds; welcomes the creation of the Impact Unit by the TV Foundation, the charitable arm of Edinburgh TV Festival, to improve representation of class and social mobility in the TV industry; believes that more should be done to ensure that working class people are able to forge a career in culture and the arts, and recognises what it sees as the value of Edinburgh’s festivals to Scotland’s culture sector.
