Mel Young Receives Edinburgh Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Mel Young, founder of the Homeless World Cup, on receiving the Edinburgh Award; understands that the Edinburgh Award recognises and celebrates individuals who have made a real and lasting positive impact on the city and have brought national and international attention to Edinburgh; recognises that Mel Young co-founded the Homeless World Cup in 2003, which uses football to support and inspire people experiencing homelessness to change their lives for the better, and improve public attitudes towards those who are experiencing homelessness through the common language of sport; understands that the Homeless World Cup has partners in 75 countries, and works with over 100 000 homeless people every year; notes that Mel also co-founded the Big Issue in Scotland, which provides social and economic opportunity for people trapped in poverty through the sale of the Big Issue magazine, and chairs sportscotland, Scotland’s national agency for sport; commends Mel Young for all his work to create a better society, and hopes for the continued success of the Homeless World Cup.
