The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Heather Beattie, play service manager at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, on receiving the Children’s Play Award from leading children’s charity, Children’s Health Scotland, for the impact she has had on children’s lives through health-related play; understands that Heather was the first person to train as a health play specialist at the hospital 33 years ago and has been responsible for developing the play service to meet the needs of children, families and staff; considers that health-related play is an essential part of the treatment of children, helping them physically, mentally and emotionally by offering a programme of activities to help relieve boredom, continue development, establish routines and provide fun, as well as boosting recovery times both at hospital and at home; believes that this award is a worthy recognition of the hard work and dedication that Heather has given to Scotland’s National Health Service during her career, as well as the care and attention that she has provided to countless children in their time of need, and hopes that it can highlight the importance of play staff and play services in the treatment of children in hospitals all across Scotland.
