Welcoming Uddingston Train Station's New Fully Accessible Footbridge and Lifts
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the official opening of Uddingston railway station's new fully accessible footbridge and lifts; understands that many of Scotland’s Railway and local community members came together to celebrate this exciting milestone under the summer skies on 29 August 2024; further understands that the event featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, which will be mounted near the new structures in the coming weeks, and that the new design thoughtfully preserves the historic character of the station; notes that this development is part of the Access for All (AfA) scheme, which seeks to make rail travel more inclusive and convenient for everyone, particularly for those with reduced mobility, children in prams and travellers with luggage; commends everyone involved in bringing this important project to life and for ensuring that the station is welcoming and accessible to all, and hopes that its presence will inspire more passengers to choose public transport, fostering low-emission travel in and around Uddingston as Scotland moves towards its net zero goal by 2045.
