The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the launch on 1 September 2024 of the Orkney snorkel trail in Finstown, bay of Firth, which contains a thriving seagrass meadow; recognises the partnership between the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Stromness Museum, Kraken Diving and other local community members and organisations, which set up stalls and provided content for the trail leaflets; understands that snorkel trails are a valuable tool to help individuals engage with the marine environment and encourage sustainable tourism; further understands that this is the final trail in a national network of 13 self-led trails around Scotland, each with local organisations working in partnership with the Scottish Wildlife Trust; recognises that, since 2016, a total of 78 sites have been identified across the network and that good water quality is paramount for the safety of multiple marine users within these areas; congratulates all those involved in the development of this trail, and looks forward to it becoming a core part of the tourism experience in Orkney.
