Congratulations to Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Communities Together and Powis Residents Group

The motion

That the Parliament commends the exceptional successes of the city of Aberdeen at the Beautiful Scotland Awards 2024; understands that Aberdeen Communities Together and Aberdeen City Council were recipients of multiple awards, including the overall winner’s prize of the Rosebowl; notes that the group was also winner of the Best City Award, and the VisitScotland Award for Tourism, which is presented to the entrant that demonstrates best practice in the promotion of tourism, for its delivery of various initiatives including an annual art festival, an indoor lights display in one of its parks, as well as a newly developed area in the centre of the city that enables the city to host a range of events; further notes that Aberdeen City Council was awarded the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society Award for the local authority that demonstrates the highest standard of horticulture in public open spaces by implementing techniques and methods to ensure that nature has a home in its parks, through planting more pollinator-friendly plant varieties and reducing the mowing of grasses and wildflowers; applauds Powis Residents Group, which was also successful in winning Best Residential Community, and recognises that the Beautiful Scotland Awards are run annually by the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful to celebrate the work of groups and individuals across the country to enhance their local areas.
