Celebrating the 85th Anniversary of Glasgow’s Central Citizens Advice Bureau
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the 85th year of outstanding public volunteering serviceto people in Glasgow of the city's Central Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB);recognises that, when it was formed on 15 January 1939, it did so inanticipation of the outbreak of the Second World War; believes that thishighlights the forward thinking of its founding members, who realised thatpeople in Glasgow would have greater need; notes that Central CAB was the firstof its kind, with other CABs in the city not forming until at least September1939; pays credit to its achievement of assisting with 73,000 enquiries by theend of the war, and welcomes what it sees as the vital role thatCAB members and volunteers played in the social housing sector rebuildingprogramme.
