Orkney International Science Festival 2024

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates another successful Orkney International Science Festival, which ran from 5 to 11 September 2024; understands that this was the 34th year of the festival, which is the second oldest of its kind in the world; congratulates the organisers on again hosting an exciting programme of talks, workshops, special events and exhibitions across Orkney; understands that these covered a wide variety of topics, including science-related matters, renewable energy in the islands and the science of living on the Moon; recognises the importance of the festival in encouraging public participation in scientific discussions and sharing knowledge of the research ongoing in the community; highlights the wide variety of special guests attending the festival from across the world; hopes that the family day of the festival will have provided children with access to exciting opportunities and given them inspiration to get involved with science; notes that a special exhibition was held to mark the last season of excavation at the Ness of Brodgar; commends the organisers for their hard work to continue making the festival a key event for Orkney and the wider scientific community, and looks forward to seeing how the festival continues to grow in the coming years.
