Montrose Port Authority, the First Scottish Port to Launch Shore Power Facility

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Montrose Port Authority on the successful launch of its shore power facility, Plug Montrose; understands that this initiative was launched in April 2024 after a year of installation, making Montrose the first Scottish port to offer this service to offshore energy vessels to decarbonise their operations; further understands that Plug Montrose is a self-funded £1 million 50/50 joint venture with Plug Shore Power Limited, the UK-based branch of Norwegian shore power company, Plug; notes that this innovative project provides an alternative energy source for vessels whilst at berth, enabling them to connect to the electricity grid at Montrose Port, which has Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO), and turn off their diesel generators, which significantly reduces emissions, fuel consumption and noise pollution; considers that Montrose Port is leading the way for other ports across the UK to implement shore power; recognises what it sees as the positive impact that Montrose Port makes on its local community and the offshore energy supply chain by taking the initiative to install emission-reducing infrastructure such as Plug Montrose, and commends Montrose Port Authority for its leadership in sustainable port operations.
