Impact of the Emergency Department Frailty Service at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

The motion

That the Parliament recognises and applauds what it sees as the exceptional work of the Emergency Department Frailty Service team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE), led by Dr Amy Armstrong, consultant in emergency medicine, and Dr Una Clancy, consultant physician in geriatric medicine; considers that the team's unwavering dedication, alongside a skilled team of advanced nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, and community care teams, keenly supported by Dr Amanda Barugh, clinical director of medicine of the elderly and stroke at RIE, is truly inspiring; understands that the team's innovative and patient-centred approach has resulted in remarkable improvements in care for its often vulnerable older patients, reducing the need for extended hospital admissions and highlighting the effectiveness of home-based recovery pathways, and believes that this service is setting new standards in geriatric care and is a testament to the team's hard work and a powerful example of the benefits of multidisciplinary collaboration in delivering better outcomes for Scotland's older population.
