Jacki Gordon from Glasgow, Shortlisted for the British Photography Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Jacki Gordon, who is a retired mental-health specialist from Glasgow, on being been shortlisted in the British Photography Awards for the third consecutive time; notes that Jacki, who started taking photographs of wildlife and her collie, Ollie, during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been shortlisted for two images; recognises that the first, in the fine art category, features a model railway figure painting nail varnish on the fingernails of Jacki’s mother, Joan, and the second, in the land animal category, is of an Arctic fox, which Jacki photographed while touring Iceland; acknowledges that the British Photography Awards is run by British Photographers, which set the competition up using an open-to-all grassroots model with no membership fees or third-party investment; further notes that the competition does not have a publishing or hospitality parent company and has grown organically by reaching out to people, with all of the proceeds from it going to support 20 charities, and believes that Jacki being shortlisted in multiple categories is a feat in itself, which showcases her versatility as a photographer.
