C&B News Celebrates 500th Edition
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates local Edinburgh Pentlands newspaper on its 500th edition; notes that C&B News is distributed for free across five communities, including Currie, Balerno, Juniper Green, Baberton and Colinton; further notes that it was launched as Currie & Balerno News in February 1976, never failing to produce an issue and continuing in print even during successive COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns during 2020 and 2021; understands that C&B News does not have a pool of paid journalists, but instead draws on the rich talent, expertise, interests and achievements of local people who contribute regularly to the editions with their knowledge and opinion; further understands that C&B News has grown and evolved considerably since 1976, developing from a 10-page monochrome, text-based newspaper to a more visually inviting, 48-page full-colour magazine, and thanks everyone involved in its success, including current editor Paul Fisher Cockburn, chair Gail Rankin, and the many local people who have contributed to the publication over the 500 editions.
