Political Donations Leading to Public Mistrust
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern media reports of the donations being accepted by members of the new UK Labour administration; considers that few people in Scotland could afford to spend £16,000 on work clothes; believes that the picture being built by these reports is of a situation that bears a stark resemblance to the Boris Johnson administration, rather than the message of "change" promised before the UK General Election in July 2024; further believes that the UK Government is acting irresponsibly and deepening what it sees as the distrust of elected members in public office, and urges the Independent Adviser on Ministers’ Interests to investigate whether any of the UK Government ministers named in these reports have broken the Ministerial Code.
