Recognising the Work of Resuscitation Council UK

The motion

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the important work of Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK); understands that RCUK is the national expert for resuscitation in the UK and works to improve survival rates for in- and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest through education, training and research; notes with concern RCUK reporting that 3,000 people in Scotland have a cardiac arrest every year yet do not have the same rehabilitation services and support as other medical issues such as strokes; welcomes the publication of the RCUK My Right to Cardiac Arrest Recovery quality standard, which outlines key measures to ensure that survivors of cardiac arrest receive access to essential care, enhanced service and better health outcomes; acknowledges the RCUK policy report, Every Second Counts: Tackling Inequalities in Resuscitation, which revealed inequalities in resuscitation across the UK, with ethnicity and socio-economic status affecting a persons’ chance of surviving a cardiac arrest due to lack of CPR training or access to defibrillators, and believes that as much as possible should be done to ensure that those who have had a cardiac arrest can access appropriate ongoing care, and defibrillators are publicly accessible in case of cardiac arrest.
