Professor Sir Jim McDonald Announces Retirement as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde
The motion
That the Parliament notes that Professor Sir Jim McDonald has announced that he will retire as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde in August 2025, after 16 years in the post; believes that, in this time, he has developed the university as a leading international technological centre, increased its research income by 350%, overseen a £1 billion campus redevelopment and widened access to the institution, as well as helped in the establishment of two innovation districts, with the Glasgow City Innovation District and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District; notes that, in addition, under his leadership, the University of Strathclyde has been recognised with several awards, including being the only institution to be named Times Higher Education UK University of the Year twice and receive three consecutive Queens Anniversary Prizes; congratulates Professor Sir Jim McDonald on his numerous achievements in the role, thanks him for his service and wishes him well, and looks forward to the University of Strathclyde continuing to flourish in the future.
