Labour Rolling Back on Tax Commitments

The motion

That the Parliament condemns reports that Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, could drop plans to end "non-dom" tax status, which allows UK residents whose main domicile for tax purposes is outside the UK to only pay tax on earnings made in the UK; notes that the UK Labour Party manifesto for the 2024 UK General Election promised to invest in the NHS, "paid for by cracking down on tax avoidance and non-dom loopholes"; further notes reports that, on 28 May 2024, the Labour Party accepted a £4 million donation from Quadrature Capital, a hedge fund based in the Cayman Islands, the sixth-largest donation in British political history; believes that rolling back on this manifesto commitment at a time when the Winter Fuel Payment is reportedly being ended for 90% of pensioners would give further credence to suggestions that the UK Government is favouring wealthy individuals over the less well-off, and hopes that these reports prove to be completely unfounded.
