Glasgow Comedy Show Highlights Mental Health Issues

The motion

That the Parliament notes that 10 October 2024 is World Mental Health Awareness Day; commends the efforts of Lorenzo Novani, who is a playwright from Glasgow and has written a performance about tackling mental health issues that particularly impact on men; notes that Lorenzo will perform his five-star acclaimed play, Cracked Tiles, at the Old Gym Theatre in Glasgow for three nights commencing from the awareness day; understands that the semi-autobiographical comedy show about a father and son is set in a fish and chip shop, which was the family business, and is drawn from real-life memories that are based on his late father's mental health issues; recognises that the performances will be supported by the Men Matter Scotland, which is a charity that was set up in to provide further information and support regarding mental health concerns for men; further recognises that Lorenzo has worked in the past with the Campaign Against Living Miserably using his play to raise awareness of its activities around suicide prevention; praises Lorenzo for drawing attention to men's mental health issues, and wishes him all the best for the success of the shows, the first night of which it understands has already sold out.
