The motion

That the Parliament recognises the success of the UCI Cycling World Championships held in Scotland in 2023, bringing 13 UCI World Championships together to create what it understands was the biggest cycling event ever; understands that more than 7,000 elite and amateur athletes from 131 countries competed, with 220 World Championship titles awarded in what it sees as the historic and innovative event; further understands that approximately one million visitors attended the championships, delivering an economic gross value added (GVA) to Scotland of £205 million, of which £129 million was within Glasgow, with a total visitor spend in Scotland of £220 million, and considers that the delivery of the championships in Glasgow and other venues across Scotland created a blueprint for forthcoming iterations of the Cycling World Championships elsewhere around the world, and for future major events in Glasgow and wider Scotland.
