Improving the Lives of Disabled People
The motion
That the Parliament understands, in line with Disability Equality Scotland, Glasgow Disability Alliance and Inclusion Scotland’s respective 2024 survey/engagement results, Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s report, Poverty in Scotland 2024, and the release of the data from Scotland’s Census 2022 on health, disability and unpaid care, that disabled people in Scotland are facing alarming and increasing poverty and inequality and, it believes, a catastrophic regression in their human rights; believes that disabled people have been forgotten by the Scottish Government, and that promises have been broken in relation to progressing an Immediate Priorities Plan to tackle need, as committed to in the Programme for Government 2023-24; commits to re-energising the long-promised disability equality plan, including meaningful actions and an effective accountability and governance framework, and pledges to support, resource and sustain investment in disabled people-led organisations, through the Equality and Human Rights Fund and others as required, to enable ongoing sharing of lived experience, representation and co-design of policies and services that lead to improvements in the lives of disabled people.
