Aberdeen Electrical Recycling Project

That the Parliament welcomes the new local, small electrical recycling project from Aberdeen City Council; notes that the project, which has seen 19 large, bright pink collection bins installed across the city, including the Aberdeen Central constituency locations of Thistle Court, King Street Morrisons and the public toilets on the esplanade at Fittie, is being supported with £32,000 of funding from Material Focus, the not-for-profit organisation leading the Recycle Your Electricals campaign; understands that these bins can be filled with electrical goods smaller than the size of a standard microwave, including mobile phones, tablets, household appliances, cables and children’s electrical toys; further understands that residents of the Granite City will be made aware of the new scheme through a publicity campaign consisting of leaflets and eye-catching posters featuring the Recycle Your Electricals campaign mascot, HypnoCat; believes that this campaign will make it easier for Aberdonians to recycle unwanted electrical goods, ensuring that the materials inside them can be properly recycled and reused, and hopes that it is successful in leading to a reduction in electrical goods being incorrectly disposed of in Aberdeen.
