Glasgow Coffee Roasters Achieve One of the Highest B Corp Scores

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dear Green, Glasgow, on achieving one of the highest B Corp scores of any Scottish coffee roaster during its recent recertification; understands that this accolade reaffirms Dear Green's commitment to upholding the rigorous social and environmental standards set by the global standard bearer B Lab, which is the non-profit organisation behind the B Corp certification; acknowledges that, to pass, companies must score above 80 points on the B impact assessment and embed a legal commitment to these values in their business model; understands that the score puts the company in the same bracket as some of the world’s most ethical companies, including Patagonia, Ben and Jerry’s and Tom’s; further understands that Lisa Lawson, the founder of Dear Green and the Glasgow Coffee Festival, which is the world’s first single-use-cup-free coffee festival, started the business in 2011; notes her reported belief that coffee could be a force for good, but that the standards for quality, customer service, ethics, accountability and transparency were not high enough across the industry; believes that recertifying as a B Corp is an incredible milestone, which proves that the company's values are ingrained in the business and recognised at the highest level, and understands that Dear Green has also pledged to be net zero by 2030 and that, to make that happen, it has invested in an electric vehicle, and is planning to install solar panels and heat pumps and work on anaerobic composting initiatives.
