Royal National Mòd 2024

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates all those involved in the Royal National Mòd 2024, held in Oban between 11 and 19 October; notes that this year’s event, which is widely recognised as the premier annual celebration of Gaelic language, sports, art and culture, saw approximately 10,000 visitors gather in Oban, an increase of 20% from the previous year; further notes that over 2,600 participants from across the globe competed in over 200 competitions; congratulates the winners of the prestigious Gold Medal competition for Gaelic solo singing, Alice MacMillan from Lewis and Ryan Johnston from Islay, as well as those awarded the coveted Traditional Gold Medals, Claire Frances MacNeil from Barra and Ruairidh Morrison from Inverness; appreciates that the Oban Gaelic Choir lifted the top prize for Gaelic choral singing, the Lovat and Tullibardine Shield, for a historic fourth consecutive time, and sends its best wishes to all those involved in organising the 2025 National Mòd, to be held in Lochaber.
