STUC St Andrew’s Day Anti-Racism March and Rally 2024
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) St Andrew’s Day Anti-Racism and Anti-Fascism March and Rally will take place in Glasgow on 30 November 2024, leaving Glasgow Green at 10.30 am and heading to Adelaide Place in Bath Street for an indoor rally at noon; believes that such marches are vital in highlighting Scotland’s long-standing commitment to inclusivity and in standing against racism and far-right ideologies; notes that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the first major anti-racist counter protest in 1983, which transformed St Andrew’s Day into the day of collective action that it is now; understands that this year’s theme, Resilient and Rising: Marching for 40 Years, reflects both the strength and ongoing struggles of anti-racist movements in Scotland; commends the STUC and its Black Workers' Committee for organising longstanding campaigns against racism and fascism; stands in solidarity with the BAME community in taking action against injustice and inequality, and encourages people to attend what it regards as this important event.
