St Cadoc’s Primary School and Nursery Class Receives Positive Education Scotland Report

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates St Cadoc’s Primary School and Nursery Class on receiving a strong and positive set of results from a recent Education Scotland inspection; understands that, during September 2024, a group of inspectors visited the Newton Mearns-based primary school and early years setting, and that, as part of its assessment, the representatives of Education Scotland spoke with parents, carers and pupils whilst engaging closely with the headteacher and staff; recognises that the inspection identified the values of the school, aligned to the Gospel values, as a strength in the work of St Cadoc’s, as they have contributed towards the development of a very positive environment for learning; further recognises that Education Scotland found that teachers make skilful and purposeful use of questions in the classroom and in a manner to encourage pupils to think deeply about learning; acknowledges that the inspectors found that staff have adopted strong approaches to learning through play in the nursery and to support early years education for children; further acknowledges that Education Scotland also concluded that consistent levels of high achievement have been delivered in literacy and numeracy because of staff approaches to teaching these vital skills; understands that the primary school was rated as very good on the quality indicators of learning, teaching and assessment and raising attainment and achievement; notes that the nursery was evaluated as good on the benchmarks of learning, teaching and assessment and securing children’s progress; recognises that St Cadoc’s is the latest school and nursery setting in Eastwood to receive a positive set of results from an Education Scotland inspection, with Kirkhill Primary, Braidbar Primary and Nursery Class and the Hazeldene Family Learning Centre all receiving what it considers to be impressive reports since the beginning of 2023; commends St Cadoc’s for receiving what it sees as such an admirable set of results, and praises the hard work of staff and pupils in ensuring that the Education Scotland assessment resulted in such a positive report.
