Tommy Gemmell Community Project

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the tremendous effort of the 70 individuals who came together to raise money for the Tommy Gemmell Community Project; notes that this initiative aims to erect a statue of the legendary footballer in Craigneuk, Wishaw, the area where he was brought up; acknowledges the participants' dedication in completing a challenging 13-mile walk that passed the statues of two of Tommy’s former Celtic and Scotland teammates, Billy McNeill in Bellshill and Jimmy Johnstone in Viewpark; commends the incredible spirit of community involvement, with participants ranging from the youngest at just two months old to the oldest at 79; notes Martin McCrum’s hopes to unveil the statue on 25 May 2025, and encourages continued support for this meaningful project that celebrates local heritage and sporting history.
