Glasgow University Student Television Celebrates 60th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow University Student Television (GUST), the world’s oldest student-run television station, as it celebrates its 60th anniversary; recognises that GUST, established in 1964, has been a trailblazer in student media, serving as a springboard for a number of successful broadcasters, journalists, producers and technicians; understands that the station gives students practical experience in television production and broadcasts a variety of programmes, from news and current affairs to entertainment and cultural content; notes that the Student TV Alumni Network hosted an event in October 2024, attended by alumni, current students and media professionals, to celebrate the legacy of the station, and that the event included a presentation on the GUST Archive Preservation Project, an extensive archive of footage documenting six decades of student life, cultural shifts and historical moments, and wishes all of those involved in the station well as it continues to encourage young talent in the television industry, as well as preserving a record of the evolution of student media and cultural history for future generations.
